    So You Want A Career in Athletics™ (SYWACIA) presented by Cherry will empower young girls and women from Kansas City and the surrounding areas who aspire for careers in sports. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the University of Missouri Kansas City Student Union 5100 Kansas Street, Kansas City, Mo. The event, open to girls ages 13-18, is being held in conjunction with International Day of the Girl on Oct. 11.

    Tragil Wade, founder of America’s Big Sisters and sister of NBA legend, Dwayne Wade, will serve as the keynote speaker.

    Dillard athletic director Kiki Baker Barnes is blazing a trail she wants others to follow.​

    In the world of college athletic directors, Kiki Baker Barnes stands out, but she’s hoping to change that.

    Most athletic directors at the collegiate level are white men. Barnes, an African American woman, has been leading Dillard University’s athletic department since 2006. Among all ADs in the state of Louisiana, she’s the only woman.

    New Orleans, LA – Ever wanted to work in sports? Come and learn about the different career opportunities in sports. The first half of the day will feature two interactive workshops and a question/answer session with sports industry professionals. During the 2nd half of the day, participants will have an opportunity to go behind the scenes with Louisiana's only female college athletic director, Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, to get a close-up view of game day responsibilities for a college athletic director.
